A Brief History of Sandgate Wreckers...
Sandgate Wreckers was established in the 1960's, and was purchased by Viv Connolly in 1985. When the Connolly's took control, Sandgate Wreckers was a small operation with two staff, a weather-affected holding yard that saw the 4WD tractor/forklift bogged when the rain was heavy, and a small shed at what is now the rear of the premises, facing Connaught Street.
In 1993, Sandgate Wreckers began its first tentative steps into the Information Age, with the purchase of its first PC, and the migration of its trusty "card-file" to a computer database. Since that time, the business has grown tenfold, and now employs over 20 staff.
1993 also saw the commencement of work on the existing premises facing Kempster Street. These premises allow for many parts to be stored off the car and under-cover, and also provide some creature comforts for staff and customers alike, including air-conditioning.
As the years have progressed, Sandgate Wreckers have continued to go from strength to strength. This growth has seen the acquisition of surrounding premises for its ever-expanding holding yards and storage facilities.
